3rd FSX – Island of Rhodes and Athens, Greece
The IN-PREP Project held its 3rd full-scale exercise (FSX) in Island of Rhodes and Athens, Greece on 4 February 2021. This was the final full-scale exercise of the IN-PREP Project and was carried out remotely due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The scenario for the 3nd FSX was a road traffic incident resulting in multiple casualties. This scenario was complicated by the competing needs of traffic management, to treat injured passengers and to rescue those trapped in vehicles and required complex, multi-agency cooperation between the local police, fire service and ambulance. Participants were tasked with responding to this scenario in order to collaborate an effective response.
Due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the 3rd FSX was conducted as a uniquely remote exercise, combining both real and simulated actors responding to a crisis scenario in real-time.
The Covid-19 pandemic has served to shift the focus of the exercise which demonstrated that notwithstanding current difficulties, it is still possible to increase the preparation of stakeholders for other emergency scenarios, which will still occur despite the present circumstances.
The 3rd FSX was the final the exercise of the IN-PREP Project, following previous exercises in Italy, the Netherlands and Northern Ireland.
